Hi! I’m Didier and I’m an emo kid from Hawkesbury, Ontario. I’m a director who specializes in drone crashes, flight delays, music docs and burger commercials. My latest feature documentary, Simple Plan: The Kids in the Crowd, comes out July 8th on Prime Video. It’s a love letter to music, youth, and the fans who never left. I was that kid in the crowd, so this one really comes from the heart.
I grew up in my uncle’s video store in Hawkesbury, Ontario, and kicked off my career at 22 as the director, producer, and host of the music TV show BRBR, which got me my first Gémeaux Award nomination. For a bit of chaos, I once skateboarded across Québec for a travel TV show.
Over the years, I’ve directed more than 30 music videos for artists like Loud, Despised Icon, Obey the Brave, Lisa LeBlanc, Tokyo Police Club, CRi, and Ryan Playground. In 2017, I was nominated for Best Director at the MuchMusic Video Awards. In 2023, my short film IF played at over 20 festivals worldwide, including SITGES and Oscar-qualifying fests REGARD and Indy Shorts — and it won the Audience Award at Fantasia and Best First Film at Filmoramax in France.
I also work in advertising and television, and I’ve been lucky to pick up some awards along the way — ADISQ nods, and Grand Prix wins at the CREA/IDEA for campaigns I directed and shot for brands like McDonald’s, Coca-Cola, Rona, A&W and a ton more.
Right now, I’m directing a new feature documentary on the Canadian rapper Loud — and once again, I find myself somewhere between the stage and the crowd, chasing stories that hit hard and stay true.
